Hazardous Area Equipment Inspection Services

If your workplace contains potentially explosive atmospheres, for example a Spray Booth, Paint Store or Oil Plant, we can provide the assurance that you are complying with all the very latest legislation. We have the knowledge and experience to assist our customers in asset management ensuring explosive safety systems are correct for the environment.

Once an area is classified as hazardous, only electrical equipment that is suitably certified can be installed or used in that area and an inspection is necessary to verify. We can carry out a full inspection of all your installed electrical apparatus and produce a report detailing any measures necessary to ensure full ATEX / DSEAR compliance.

Inspections are based on the following Standards:

  • BS EN 60079-17 Inspection and maintenance of electrical installations in hazardous areas
  • BS EN 60079-14 Electrical equipment for installation in hazardous areas
  • 1999/92/EC (ATEX 137) The protection of workers at risk from potentially explosive atmospheres Directive
  • 94/9/EC (ATEX 95) Equipment and protective systems in potentially explosive atmospheres Directive
  • DSEAR The Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations

We can carry out the following types of inspections:

  • Periodic Inspections BS EN 60079-17 Part 3.2.5
  • Visual Inspections BS EN 60079-17 Part 3.2.1
  • Close Inspections. BS EN 60079-17 Part 3.2.2
  • Detailed Inspections BS EN 60079-17 Part 3.2.3
  • Sample Inspections BS EN 60079-17 Part 3.2.6

We can carry out all types of inspection including visual, close and detailed and can also assist you in determining the most appropriate and cost effective inspection solutions for your workplace whilst still ensuring that the minimum requirements for legislative compliance and safety are achieved

The inspections are carried out in accordance with BS EN 60079-17 and are completed by competent and approved electrical engineers. All inspections are backed up by a detailed safety inspection report including recommendations for safety improvements where necessary.

Minor repairs and corrections can be carried out during inspection (with prior approval) and will be fully documented in the inspection report.   All work is fully guaranteed to comply with the requirements of DSEAR.

Where no equipment inventory is present we can provide this as part of our inspection service thereby optimising the process for subsequent periodic inspections.  We can provide a full asset register of hazardous area equipment, providing barcode labelling of equipment.
