Battery Recycling
The Problem:
Batteries contain substances such as mercury, lead and cadmium which are now considered as dangerous waste in UK. In the event of incineration, the metals pollute the atmosphere. When batteries are simply dumped, their oxidation frees these metals which may then pollute the soil or underground water.
Did you know?
Over 20,000 tonnes of batteries are thrown away in the UK each year, most of which ends up in landfill.
The Law:
Government legislation now means that many sites will no longer take commercial battery waste. NiCad and Lead Acid batteries are now classed as Hazardous Waste, a major problem for many contractors looking to dispose old batteries.
The Solution:
ESI Electrical have a Battery Recycling Service. Our engineers will remove any hazardous or electrical waste whilst working on your site saving you time and leaving you safe in the knowledge that you are doing your bit to save the planet.
Lamp and Tube Recycling
The Problem:
Fluorescent tubes contain varying degrees of mercury in the form of powder. Enclosed in the tubes, it is inoffensive. But mercury is a heavy metal which can cause damage and prevent health risks if it is released into the environment. A tube thrown into a waste has every chance of breaking and releasing its mercury.
Did you know?
One fluorescent tube has enough mercury to contaminate up to 30,000 litres of water beyond the UK safe drinking level and estimates are that up to 100 million old lamps each year have been buried in landfill sites.
The Law:
The Government classified discharge lamps containing Mercury as hazardous waste in July 2005 and with the introduction of the WEEE directive in July 2007 all businesses within the UK must dispose of their controlled waste legally by obtaining the relevant waste consignment note. The placing of just one tube or lamp in a skip will render that entire skip as hazardous waste and must then be disposed as accordingly.
The Solution:
ESI Electrical have a Lamp and Tube Recycling Service. Our engineers will remove any hazardous or electrical waste whilst working on your site, saving you time and leaving you safe in the knowledge that you are complying to legislation and doing your bit for the environment.
Not due an engineer visit?
Contact our office, and we can arrange for an engineer to visit and collect your hazardous waste, when our engineers are in the area.
A small recycling fee is placed on all invoices for the removal of hazardous and WEEE electrical waste, inline with the fees charged by our suppliers for the recycling of electrical waste.
Should you have a large ammount of electrical waste; please contact us for a Quotation.
